Lawrence Family Medicine Residency

Nicholas Weida MD, Residency Program Director

Jennifer Somers MD, On-site Evaluator/Project Lead

Problem Statement:

Make improvements in targeting resident education towards individualized learning goals while maintaining essential structures/standardization of our four-year residency.

In order to:

  • Maximize attractiveness to applicants
  • Scope of care for graduates
  • Overall residency experience

Proposed Solution

Innovation Area of Concentration (AOC)

Allow residents to design an AOC catered round their learning goals

OB Tracking

For High Volume/Low Volume Exposure during R3/R4 year

H-Med

Dedicated backup rotation for sick call-outs/service demands

Hypotheses or Questions

Innovation AOC

  • Will it detract from other AOCs?
  • Will it more fully engage residents in their own learning?
  • Will it create curricular growth/teaching?

OB Tracking

  • Will it create senior coverage issues?
  • Will it allow for greater satisfaction in OB training?
  • Will it degrade the reputation of LFMR OB curriculum?

H-Med

  • Will it reduce pulling people from dedicated elective/AOC experiences?
  • Will it improve resident wellbeing? What is optimal duration?
